U.S. President Donald Trump plans to hold a face-to-face meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara on July 7–8, followed by a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to sources cited by Reuters.

Earlier, both Zelensky and Putin had separately called Trump to congratulate him on the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Each conversation addressed the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine. After his call with Trump, Zelensky stated: “There is a real prospect to put an end to this war, and America’s resolve is decisive.”

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, said that Trump had confirmed his willingness to facilitate the earliest possible end to the fighting and to search for solutions to overcome the crisis.

The NATO summit in Ankara will gather alliance leaders, with Ukraine expected to be a central topic. Trump’s planned meeting with Zelensky and subsequent call to Putin signal active U.S. engagement in diplomatic efforts.
