Ukrainian forces launched a cruise missile strike on the morning of June 22 against the Voronezh semiconductor plant, known as VZPP-S. Photos and videos posted on social media show a fire at the site.

The plant is a leading Russian manufacturer of discrete semiconductor devices, integrated microchips, and power modules, and has been under sanctions by many countries. It supplies components for Russia's air defense and cruise missile production lines.

According to the Ukrainian Telegram channel “Exilenova+”, the plant provides parts for at least three weapon systems. For the Kh-101 cruise missile, it produces transistor blocks for the UVK-208 control unit. For the Iskander-K 9M727 cruise missile, it manufactures semiconductor blocks for the onboard computer. And for the Pantsir-S1 air defense system, it supplies diode and transistor blocks for the TVK-2 channel.

Due to international sanctions, obtaining such microchips is difficult for Russia. The strike aims to slow down multiple production lines simultaneously. Ukraine is increasingly targeting Russian defense plants deep inside its territory, not just launch systems on the front lines. Kyiv interprets these strikes as disrupting the supply chains that underpin Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities.
