The Latvian Bible Society has initiated a project to produce a new translation of the New Testament in the Latgalian language. This will be the first translation directly into the modern written form of Latgalian, rather than being based on older versions. The aim is both to make the biblical text accessible to Latgalian speakers and to support the preservation and development of the Latgalian language.

The translation work is scheduled to be completed by 2031. This initiative represents a significant step in expanding the use of Latgalian in a religious context, as previously the New Testament in Latgalian was only available in fragments or older translations. The new translation considers contemporary Latgalian language norms and literary traditions.
