Germany recalls two naval vessels from Red Sea region
Germany's Defense Ministry has decided to recall the minesweeper 'Fulda' and supply ship 'Mosel' from the Red Sea region due to the unstable political situation and the lack of imminent operations in the Strait of Hormuz. The ships remain in Djibouti and will be kept ready for possible future deployment.
Germany's Defense Ministry announced the recall of two naval vessels from the Red Sea region. A ministry spokesman confirmed to AFP that the minesweeper 'Fulda' and the supply ship 'Mosel' are currently in Djibouti. They were sent to the region last month to prepare for a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the US-Iran war.
The ministry stated that the political situation remains unstable and there is no expectation that operations in the Strait of Hormuz will begin in the near future. Keeping the ships in the region indefinitely puts a strain on their technical systems.
The conflict between Iran and the US has escalated in recent days. On Thursday, Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels attacked Saudi vessels in the Red Sea. The German Defense Ministry said the two ships will be 'kept ready for deployment' and will return to the Middle East as soon as there is reason to believe that a mission in the Strait of Hormuz could begin soon.
