Germany: Linnemann replaces Warken as health minister
CDU politician Carsten Linnemann becomes Germany's new health minister, while outgoing minister Katharina Warken moves to head the Chancellery, becoming the first woman in that role.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced at a press conference that CDU politician Carsten Linnemann will become the new health minister, following Merz's request. Linnemann acknowledged the task is significant but expressed enthusiasm for the role.
Linnemann had been considered for a ministerial post since the start of the legislative term. He was originally offered the economy ministry but declined, preferring the labor ministry, which ultimately went to the SPD.
Katharina Warken, who served as health minister since last year, takes over as head of the Chancellery. Merz praised her familiarity with security policy and said she will help drive reforms. Her appointment marks the first time a woman has led the Federal Chancellery.
Merz also hinted at further cabinet reshuffles, stating there will be more changes, but declined to specify who would be affected.
