Germany Unexpectedly Recalls Two Warships from Red Sea
Germany's Defense Ministry announced the recall of two warships from the Red Sea, postponing a planned mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
The German Navy will recall two ships from the Red Sea region to the eastern Mediterranean in the coming days, the German Defense Ministry announced on Thursday. The minesweeper "Fulda" and the supply ship "Mosel" are currently in Djibouti, where they were sent last month to prepare for a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz following the end of the US-Iran war.
The ministry stated that the political situation remains unstable and operations in the Strait of Hormuz are not expected to begin in the near future. The indefinite stay of the ships in the region places a strain on their technical systems, according to a ministry spokesman. The recall is seen as a precautionary measure to ensure the ships' technical readiness.
The conflict between Iran and the US has escalated in recent days. On Thursday, Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen attacked Saudi ships in the Red Sea, further complicating the situation. The German Defense Ministry emphasized that both ships will be kept ready for deployment and will return to the Middle East as soon as there is reason to believe that the Hormuz mission could begin soon.
