Valka Region Women's Choir “Ziemeļstīga” Wins Best Choir of Vidzeme Title
On Saturday, July 11, the women's choir “Ziemeļstīga” from Valka region performed at the Great Bandstand in Mežaparks and won the title of best choir of Vidzeme, along with a 3,000 euro gift card.
Last Saturday brought an unexpected triumph for the Valka region women's choir “Ziemeļstīga”. The ensemble not only took part in the grand choral concert “Manai Dzimtenei” at Mežaparks but also entered a song contest organized by maestro Raimonds Pauls, where it was named the best choir in Vidzeme. The winners received a 3,000 euro gift card from the shopping center “Valleta”.
Choir conductor Karīna Pundzjus shared her joy on social media, emphasizing that they had seized every opportunity. She thanked the singers, choirmasters Inese Niklaviča and Lolita Medne, and accompanist Andris Niklavičs. For the contest, the choir submitted a video with two live-performed songs. According to choir member Līga Pandalone, the decision to participate was made hastily, and the songs were rehearsed many times.
Pundzjus admitted that until the announcement, she and colleague Inese Niklaviča expected a choir from Valmiera or Smiltene to win. The victory left them speechless. The gift card is planned to be used for sewing new concert dresses for the 30 choir members.
