A Saturday train service from Riga to Jelgava in Latvia suffered damage to both the train's pantograph and the overhead contact line while under way, Latvian Television reported. A pantograph is the device mounted on the roof of an electric train that connects it to the overhead line supplying electricity.

The incident alarmed several passengers. One of them said she had never before heard such sounds on a train.

The source does not say what caused the damage, whether anyone was hurt, or how the incident affected other train traffic. It also does not say when the damage would be repaired.

The report is based on Latvian Television's coverage and passenger accounts of the Riga–Jelgava journey.
