Xpeng X9 Air Suspension Fails in Heat – Car Leans or Drops to Ground
The Chinese luxury MPV Xpeng X9 faces suspension issues in high temperatures, with the compressor shutting down and causing the car to tilt or sink; the manufacturer advises parking in shade, but one owner reported defects even in normal conditions due to a short circuit.
According to recent reports, the Xpeng X9, a luxury MPV from Chinese automaker Xpeng, is experiencing problems with its air suspension system. The issues are particularly pronounced in hot weather, when the suspension compressor stops working, causing the vehicle to lean to one side or even fully drop to the ground.
CarNewsChina, citing reports from Chongqing—a megacity that has suffered a heatwave this summer—notes that even this expensive vehicle is not immune to the heat. The Xpeng X9, measuring 5.3 meters in length, comes standard with air suspension and is offered in Europe starting at around €78,000 in Germany. However, intense heat triggers the compressor's protection system, which prevents overheating but results in the suspension losing its ability to maintain proper ride height.
The manufacturer explains that this can occur under certain conditions and advises owners to park the vehicle in a shaded area away from direct sunlight. After doing so, the air suspension should return to normal operation.
However, one Xpeng X9 owner in China reported encountering suspension issues even when ambient temperatures were within normal range. The defect first appeared after only 1,500 km of driving, and again after an additional 1,000 km. Investigation revealed that the problem was caused by a short circuit in the motor switch and a blown fuse.
This issue could raise concerns for potential buyers, as the Xpeng X9 is also being marketed in Europe, and suspension problems may affect both comfort and safety.
