Fencer Zamkovojs loses in first elimination round of European Championships
Latvian fencer Zamkovojs lost to Croatian Markota and finished 72nd. Čaikovskis did not advance.

Latvian fencer Mihails Zamkovojs suffered a defeat in the first elimination round of the European Fencing Championships, losing to Croatian Vedran Markota with a score of 10:15. In the preliminary group stage, Zamkovojs won three out of six bouts, which allowed him to qualify for the elimination tournament, but his progress was halted after the first match. He finished in 72nd place overall.
Another Latvian fencer, Dmitrijs Čaikovskis, managed only one win in six group bouts and did not advance to the elimination rounds, tying for 98th place among 116 competitors.
On Wednesday, the women's épée competition begins. Latvia will be represented by this year's European and World Junior champion Sofija Prošina, along with Anna Marija Orlova. The European Championships are taking place in Antony, France, and will run until Sunday.
It is worth noting that the championship was originally scheduled to be held in Estonia, but Estonia lost the hosting rights after failing to provide government guarantees for visa issuance to all Russian and Belarusian athletes.
