Riga marks Latvian Home Guard's 35th anniversary with talks on innovation
Latvia's Home Guard (Zemessardze) is celebrating its 35th founding anniversary, with public discussions on the organization's development held in a special tent in Riga's Opera Square. Entrepreneurs, researchers and guardsmen take part in the talks.

On Sunday, August 23, Latvia's National Guard, known as Zemessardze, marked the 35th anniversary of its founding. To celebrate the occasion, a discussion tent called "Zem-teksts" was set up in Riga's Opera Square, hosting public conversations with residents.
Three discussions on the future
The event features three separate public discussions. Entrepreneurs, researchers, as well as guardsmen and soldiers themselves take part, jointly examining the directions in which the Home Guard is developing.
Topics covered include the role of drone technology in modern defense, building a culture of innovation within the organization, and the Home Guard's vision for the future. Speakers also address cooperation models between the Home Guard and employers whose staff simultaneously serve as guardsmen.
The event is part of broader celebrations marking the 35th anniversary, through which the Home Guard aims to inform the public about the organization's current activities and its development plans for the coming years.
