How to reset your Roku TV: from a quick restart to a full factory reset
Roku TVs can occasionally freeze, drop Wi-Fi connections or stop responding, and depending on the severity, either a basic restart or a full factory reset can fix the issue. It's best to have Roku account and Wi-Fi details ready before attempting either.
Like any television, Roku TVs can sometimes freeze up, stop responding to the remote, lose their Wi-Fi connection, or act unresponsive after a software update. In most cases, this can be fixed without resorting to a full wipe.
A basic restart
The least disruptive fix is a simple restart, which leaves all apps, accounts and settings untouched. This can be done through Settings > System > Power > System restart, or Settings > System > System restart on models without a separate Power menu. If the interface is completely frozen, unplugging the TV for about 10 seconds and plugging it back in usually works just as well.
Factory reset
If a restart doesn't solve the problem, a full factory reset erases personal settings, unlinks the Roku account, and removes all installed apps, returning the TV to its out-of-the-box state. This is done via Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset, followed by entering an on-screen confirmation code. Afterward, the TV needs to be reconnected to Wi-Fi, signed back into a Roku account, and have its apps reinstalled. The same menu also allows resetting only network or audio/picture settings separately.
Resetting without a remote
Many Roku TVs include a physical reset button or a small pinhole switch on the back, side or bottom of the set. Holding it for about 12 seconds restarts the TV into the factory setup screen. Some newer models without a dedicated button instead require holding the Power and Find My Remote buttons together, or can be reset using the official Roku mobile app when the TV is on the same Wi-Fi network as the phone.
Fixing Wi-Fi issues
For connectivity problems, the recommended first steps are restarting both the TV and the router, then re-entering the Wi-Fi password through Settings > Network.
If a Roku TV keeps returning to the setup screen on its own without any physical cause, this indicates an unexpected factory reset has occurred, and contacting Roku Support is advised.
