Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey', following his Oscar-winning 'Oppenheimer', is an adaptation of the classical Greek epic. It has become the hottest movie of the summer, drawing attention with its epic scale and star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, and Benny Safdie.

Nolan explained he chose the project to challenge himself with a completely different type of storytelling and to look for a gap in the culture. The film was shot entirely on the extra-large Imax format using 2 million feet of film, and Nolan, as usual, avoided digital effects in favor of building authentic props and locations, such as the Trojan horse and Odysseus's ship.

Mary Beard, professor emerita of classics at Cambridge, expressed hope that the film would cause a 'Wuthering Heights effect', prompting audiences to reflect on modern questions like what it means to go home and what war does to those left behind. She emphasizes that translations are never neutral and new translations reveal new things about the texts.

Industry experts predict 'The Odyssey' could earn $80-100 million in its opening weekend in North America alone. Wendy Mitchell, contributing editor for Screen International, believes Nolan deserves the huge budgets because his films attract wide audiences. She adds that Nolan's approach of using traditional filmmaking methods in the digital age is highly respected.

However, the film has also faced criticism for its use of modern dialogue and lack of Greek actors. Despite this, Mitchell is confident that 'The Odyssey' will overcome these issues and become a must-see for anyone who cares about cinema.
