Latvian opera singer Laima Andersone-Silāre has died at the age of 96. She was born on 11 December 1929 and passed away on 19 August 2026. News of her death was announced by the Latvian National Opera and Ballet on social media.
Decades on stage and in the classroom
Andersone-Silāre was a soloist at the Latvian National Opera from 1960 to 1985, spending twenty-five years as a performer with the institution. Alongside her stage career, she also worked as a teacher, serving as a lecturer at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music from 1960 to 1990 — combining artistic and pedagogical work for more than three decades.
Through this dual career, Andersone-Silāre remained a presence in Latvia's opera life for decades, both as a performer on stage and as a teacher shaping new generations of musicians at the country's leading music academy.
