Weekend road accidents in Kurzeme leave three injured, one dead
Kurzeme region recorded 33 traffic accidents over the weekend, with one pedestrian killed after being struck by a car at night. Police also caught several drivers under the influence, without licenses, or driving despite a ban.

Over the past weekend, 33 traffic accidents were registered in the Kurzeme region of Latvia. Three of them involved injuries to people who were either hit while walking or crashed into obstacles, and in one case the injured person died. State Police also issued 195 administrative decisions for traffic violations overall, 97 of which concerned speeding.
Pedestrian killed in Kuldīga municipality
On the evening of October 3, on road P120 in the Rumba parish of Kuldīga municipality, a Volvo struck a man who was walking on the roadway in darkness without reflective elements. The pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries. Police have opened a criminal case to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Head-on lane collision in Saldus municipality
On the morning of October 2, in the Zvārde parish of Saldus municipality, a Volkswagen driver crossed into the oncoming lane on the Saldus–Strīķi road and collided with a Subaru driven by a woman. No one was injured, and an administrative violation process has been opened.
Drink-driving and licensing violations
In Liepāja, on Ziemeļu Street, police stopped a BMW driver at night who registered 0.90 per mille of alcohol and, on top of that, was already banned from driving — two separate proceedings were opened against him.
In Kolka, Talsu municipality, police stopped a moped rider without a helmet who initially tried to flee. He was found to have 2.15 per mille of alcohol, no driving license, and the moped lacked mandatory insurance — five administrative proceedings were initiated.
In Saldus, municipal police stopped another moped rider with 2.64 per mille of alcohol, who likewise had no license or insurance and was riding without a helmet.
