Opera Singer Sergejs Jēgers Has Created 20,000 Preserves
Opera singer Sergejs Jēgers has produced 20,000 jars of preserves over five years, sold at Stockmann. He continues singing but calls cooking meditation.

Renowned Latvian opera singer Sergejs Jēgers, a countertenor, has been professionally engaged in food production for five years. He has revealed that during this time he has created 20,000 preserves. His products have been available at the Stockmann department store for nearly three years, with good sales figures.
Jēgers has developed seven stable food lines. Among the most popular items are beetroot salad in tomato juice, cranberry chili chutney, tomato and onion delicacy, rasoļņik (a cold soup), and marinated onions in jelly. Although he works alone on his brand, he has his own food technologists and an inspector from the Food and Veterinary Service who monitors the process. The singer notes that he appreciates the oversight as it ensures order.
However, Jēgers emphasizes that singing remains his main occupation, while preserving he calls a business. In addition, he has started preparing dishes for birthday parties and festive banquets, and also bakes his own seed bread. Cooking, he says, is like meditation. This summer, on August 8, he will appear in the country musical "Gadsimta kāzas" (Wedding of the Century) together with the theater troupe "Kvadrifrons" at the Valmiera Summer Theater Festival.
Jēgers is also an avid traveler, having visited 50 countries. This summer he plans to travel extensively around Latvia with his family, and recently returned from Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. He tries to visit places he has never been before.
