Oura Ring 5 Review: Incremental Update with More Clutter
The Oura Ring 5 is thinner and lighter but keeps the same sensors and battery life as its predecessor. Software updates are not exclusive, and the limited size range may disappoint.

Design and Hardware
The Oura Ring 5 is mostly an aesthetic upgrade over the Oura Ring 4. It's thinner and lighter, but the sensors, battery life, and software features remain identical. The metal finish is more durable, but there's no ceramic option. Sizing is restricted: sizes 4, 5, 14, and 15 are unavailable. Oura says this is due to assessing demand, which may inconvenience users with smaller or larger fingers.
Software and User Experience
New software features like GLP-1 Insights, Health Radar, medical lab imports, and an AI chatbot are not exclusive to the Ring 5; they are added to previous models via app updates. However, the reviewer notes that these features clutter the Oura app, leading to data fatigue. The app has become more overwhelming compared to its earlier streamlined design.
Charging and Accessories
The charging case is now sold separately for $99 and is not compatible with previous generations. This can be an extra expense for existing users who already own a case for the Ring 4.
Conclusion
The Oura Ring 5 remains the best smart ring on the market, especially as a casual health tracker. But for those who already own an Oura Ring 4 or ceramic edition, upgrading is unnecessary. At $399 plus a monthly subscription, the value proposition is questionable.
