Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 Get a RAM Boost, but Will Cost $10 More After July 14
Retroid upgrades RAM from 8GB to 12GB for unfulfilled orders, but both handhelds will see a $10 price increase after July 14.

Retroid, the maker of Android-based emulation handhelds, has announced changes for its Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 models. The company will upgrade all unfulfilled orders of the entry-level 8GB RAM, 128GB storage versions to 12GB of RAM at no extra cost. However, after July 14, both devices will cost $10 more.
These handhelds already feature a Snapdragon 865 chip, capable of emulating consoles like GameCube and PlayStation 2. The additional RAM should theoretically improve performance.
After the price increase, the Retroid Pocket 5 will start at $209 and the Flip 2 at $219. Customers still have until July 14 to purchase at current prices.
Retroid hasn't officially explained the reason for the change, but given the global RAM shortage driven by AI companies' demand, it's likely a response to rising memory costs. Unlike giants like Apple or Samsung, Retroid operates at a smaller scale, leaving it with less buffer stock and bargaining power. Eliminating the cheapest tier is a logical business move.
