Social media thread asks how big a pay rise it takes for people to switch jobs

A user on the social network Threads asked how large a salary increase would make workers ready to change jobs. Replies ranged from 30% more to triple the current pay, while some said working hours and flexibility matter more than money.

A man on the social network Threads posed a question that may make many employees think: how much would a raise on top of their current take-home pay need to be for them to be ready to change jobs soon? The author of the post acknowledged that money is not the only factor, but wanted to find out where people's tipping point lies. Commenters shared a wide range of answers.

Different thresholds

Some commenters named specific figures. One said that, with other conditions similar, he would need a salary at least 30% higher. Another said he would consider switching if the offer were at least double his current pay. One replied briefly: "About 800 euros." Another felt a small raise is not worth the change and that roughly doubling the salary is the point below which it makes no sense.

Some set higher demands. A user whose current workplace offers a very free work regime and clear goals and results said that pay alone is not the key criterion, and that a new job would need to pay as much as three times more.

Not only salary

Several commenters stressed that monthly income is not the only consideration. Working hours, flexibility and the ability to combine work with personal life also matter. One woman wrote that keeping flexible hours and a hybrid work model comes first, with salary second; she would consider an offer with 25–30% higher pay, depending on the position.

Another commenter said the number of hours worked matters more to him than the exact salary. He wants more time for himself, sports, computer games and other hobbies, as well as the option to go to the cinema or spend time with family in the middle of a working day. He wrote that he has already cut spending to afford this and would switch jobs if it meant fewer hours for a comparable standard of living.

One user linked his demands to the field: for the same job at another company he would start considering double his pay; for a different but enjoyable field, triple; and for work he dislikes, "a million."
