The Onion's Relaunched InfoWars to Debut on July 2nd
The satirical news outlet The Onion has announced that its revamped InfoWars platform, acquired from Alex Jones, will launch on July 2nd as a comedy and cultural hub, alongside a $100,000 donation to Sandy Hook families.

The Onion has set a launch date of July 2nd for its rebooted version of InfoWars, the conspiracy network once owned by Alex Jones. The new platform will be reimagined as a comedy and cultural media outlet, moving away from its previous role as a conspiracy theory channel.
According to a press release, the project was developed with the support of the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims. The new InfoWars will feature original programming, guest talent, and new comedic voices, aligning with The Onion's broader vision of building a modern, internet-native comedy ecosystem.
The relaunch coincides with a $100,000 donation to the Sandy Hook families, raised through merchandise sales related to the project. The press release notes this is the first time the families have received funds directly from the InfoWars sale process. Alex Jones was ordered in 2022 to pay $1.5 billion to the families after losing a defamation suit for claiming the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax.
Comedian Tim Heidecker will lead the new InfoWars. Jones had spent multiple episodes attempting to undermine Heidecker as he was about to lose his show. The Onion has teased the new platform with social media clips, including one featuring recurring character Jim Haggerty, a fictional newscaster now portrayed as a conspiracy-minded podcaster.
Under the current proposed deal, The Onion will license the InfoWars brand from the court-appointed manager. Heidecker told Wired that the site is "in limbo," but The Onion is proceeding with the relaunch. InfoWars will premiere on July 2nd at 8 PM ET on theonion.info and across The Onion's social media channels.
