Water temperature along the Baltic Sea coast ranges from +14°C in the open sea to +22°C in the Gulf of Riga. In rivers, the water has warmed to between +16°C and +24°C, and in lakes and reservoirs, it ranges from +20°C to +23°C. The Daugava River shows temperatures of +22°C to +24°C, while rivers in Latgale are +17°C to +23°C, Vidzeme +16°C to +22°C, Zemgale +19°C to +24°C, and Kurzeme +18°C to +23°C.
In Riga's official swimming spots on Saturday, water temperatures were between +18°C and +25°C. The highest readings were recorded at Ķīšezers and Bābelīte (+25°C), while Daugavgrīva had the coolest water at +18°C. Vakarbuļļi beach reported +20°C, Vecāķi +19°C, and Rumbula +20°C.
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) forecasts precipitation for the weekend and early next week, with locally heavy rain and thunderstorms. River levels will begin to rise, and intense local rainfall may cause rapid water level increases, possibly flooding floodplains and low-lying areas. Gusty winds could lead to sharp water level fluctuations in the sea and in the lower reaches of rivers flowing into the sea or the gulf.
Hot weather is expected to continue for the next few days, but cooler conditions are forecast for next week, which will also lower water temperatures in water bodies. The LVĢMC reminds the public to observe water safety: do not swim alone, do not overestimate your abilities, supervise children near water, and ensure that the chosen swimming spot is safe.
