Valmiera County plans to create 12 shelters by end of 2027

Repair works and improvements are set to begin soon on 12 sites in Valmiera County to adapt existing premises into third-category shelters. Due to the highest population density, 11 shelters will be in Valmiera city and one in Rūjiena.

Valmiera County municipality plans to create 12 shelters by the end of 2027, adapting existing buildings. The third-category shelters will be established through repairs and necessary upgrades. Most of them – 11 – will be located in Valmiera, where the population density in the county is highest. One shelter will be built in Rūjiena.

This information was reported by Latvian Radio. An exact start date for the works has not been announced yet, but preparatory activities are expected to begin in the near future. The creation of shelters is part of civil protection measures to ensure the safety of residents.
