Winnie the Pooh Turns 100
Winnie the Pooh, the children's literature bear with a fondness for honey, is celebrating his centenary this year. The first book collection of his stories was published on October 14, 1926.
Winnie the Pooh, described as the world's most famous and very greedy bear, is celebrating his 100th anniversary this year. The milestone marks the time when the character first reached the public and later became the hero of a book.
Pooh made his debut in a story called "The Wrong Kind of Bees", published in the London Evening News newspaper. That was the character's first appearance, and it launched the bear's path to readers.
The first book
The first collection of Pooh stories came out in book form on October 14, 1926, which means exactly a century ago today. The collection was illustrated by E. H. Shepard.
The bear's best-known trait, as France 24 puts it, is his taste for honey. That characteristic has helped make him one of the most recognisable figures in children's books.
The anniversary falls today, October 14, a hundred years after the first book was published.
