Which? finds 150 potentially lethal baby products sold online
Consumer watchdog Which? has identified 150 dangerous baby products on seven major online marketplaces, posing choking and suffocation risks to infants.

An investigation by consumer champion Which? has uncovered 150 potentially lethal baby products being sold to UK parents on seven major online marketplaces: Alibaba, AliExpress, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, OnBuy, and TikTok Shop. The products pose serious risks of choking and suffocation.
Among the hazardous items are 54 self-feeding prop feeders, which allow babies to bottle-feed without supervision, increasing the risk of choking or aspiration pneumonia. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) had issued a warning about these devices in 2022. Additionally, 21 pillow bottle-holders designed to fasten around a baby's neck were found, along with 37 sleep pillows marketed for infants under 12 months, despite an OPSS warning in December 2025 linking them to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Which? also identified 59 baby sleeping bags with hoods or lacking arm holes, creating a suffocation risk. The majority (38) were listed on Etsy. Almost a quarter of all dangerous products were found on Amazon, which presents itself as an industry leader in detecting unsafe goods.
Which? is urging the UK government to immediately implement measures under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act (2025) to make online marketplaces legally responsible for third-party products. Several platforms, including Amazon, eBay, and Etsy, said they had removed the flagged items and are investigating. TikTok Shop claimed that over 99.5% of non-compliant products are proactively removed before listing.
