Journalist Ate Chia Seeds Daily for Two Weeks – No Major Digestive Changes
British journalist Anna Barterer consumed chia pudding every day for two weeks to assess its effect on digestion, but found no significant difference.

Chia seeds have long been hailed as a superfood, with claims of benefits ranging from improved digestion to better heart health. British journalist Anna Barterer decided to test these claims by eating chia pudding daily for two weeks.
The experiment got off to a rocky start – in the first few days, she experienced food poisoning, but later continued. After the first week, she did not notice more frequent bowel movements, but did observe an improvement in the quality of digestion. During the second week, she established a routine: preparing the pudding in the evening and eating it for breakfast. However, at the end of the experiment, Anna admitted: "To be honest, after two weeks I felt that my bowel function was essentially the same as before. I didn't notice any obvious difference."
Experts say this result could be due to several factors. Each person's digestive system and gut health are different. Additionally, two weeks might be too short a time to draw firm conclusions. Nutritionist Natalia Barovsa emphasizes: "It's only one part of gut health. Chia seeds won't always compensate for other dietary or lifestyle habits that can negatively affect the digestive system."
Experts recommend soaking chia seeds before consumption, as dry seeds can cause constipation. Soaked seeds form a gel-like mass that aids digestion. According to Harvard medical experts, potential benefits of chia seeds include maintaining digestive system function, weight control, lowering blood pressure, controlling cholesterol levels, improving diabetes control, reducing inflammation, promoting cardiovascular health, and improving emotional well-being as well as reducing anxiety symptoms.
