Latvia's Food and Veterinary Service (PVD), the agency responsible for food safety oversight in the country, has detected salmonella bacteria in Polish-origin chicken fillet during laboratory testing. The affected product is being withdrawn from sale.

Product details

The recalled chicken fillet carries batch number 6450747473 and a use-by date of 27 October 2026. The producer is Animex Food, and the wholesaler is SIA Sanitex.

Official advice

The PVD asks consumers to be cautious. Before eating, the product must be thoroughly heat-treated by frying or boiling, as salmonella is destroyed during cooking. While preparing it, people should use kitchen utensils that are not used for other foods, and afterwards wash surfaces, utensils and hands carefully.

If there are concerns that these conditions cannot be met, the service recommends not eating the product at all.

Another finding

In separate laboratory testing, the PVD also found elevated total water content in another Polish-origin chicken breast fillet. The agency will inform the producer about it.

Notifications about both findings have been posted in the European Union's Rapid Alert System, which is used to exchange information among member states about unsafe food products.
