Toyota Begins Building WRC27 Rally Car for Monte Carlo Rally
Toyota's factory team has completed the design of its WRC27 car and started building the first chassis for the 2027 Monte Carlo Rally, while the technical director expresses skepticism about the new regulations.

Toyota's factory team has moved to the next stage – after completing the design of the WRC27 rally car, work began last week on the first chassis, intended for the 2027 Monte Carlo Rally.
Although the official model name has not yet been confirmed, sources indicate that the "Corolla" name is likely to be chosen instead of MR2. Technical director Tom Fowler said the latest tests were very successful and the production process is on schedule.
Skepticism About New Rules
Fowler expressed skepticism about the planned WRC27 regulations, particularly the option to use "Rally2" cars with a "WRC2 Kit" package. He believes it is unwise to introduce a third option just six months before the season starts.
According to Fowler, some might want to convert their "GR Yaris Rally2" car with the kit to enter the RC1 class, but it is a very limited market. He also noted that the Rally2 regulations are technologically outdated – about 95% of a Rally2 car still meets the R5 specifications developed in 2011, while materials, electronics, and other technologies have advanced significantly since then.
"The WRC Kit is an option for manufacturers who missed the train with the original WRC27 regulations," Fowler said. He is not sure it will make a huge difference, although saving 10 kg and improved aerodynamics will help in some conditions. However, one must remember that these cars are based on technical regulations that are 15 years old.
